Early Childhood Center
Welcome to the new Early Childhood Center at Temple Beth El. We are proud to open our doors to families in Stamford and surrounding areas providing flexible programming for young children. Recognizing the need in our community for a Jewish Early Childhood Center that meets the demands of today’s modern families, the design for our school provides for the highest standards of early childhood education, creating a place for children to thrive in a sparkling clean, cozy, well-equipped, child-centered environment. Our school seeks to create a sense of wonder, curiosity and skills for our youngest school-goers.
Our philosophy and our curriculum is based on the understanding of the ways in which young children learn best. Referred to as the developmental-interaction approach, our program supports the needs, interests, and developmental tasks of young children, and emphasizes the interaction between the learning child and his or her social and physical environment.
We believe that experiences lead to learning when they occur in a socially, physically and emotionally responsive classroom setting. A carefully planned curriculum encourages safe, spontaneous, hands-on exploration and supports the development of curiosity, problem-solving and social growth. We endeavor to create an atmosphere which nurtures self-esteem through positive relationships with others along with respect and acknowledgement of each child’s individuality and level of competence.
Just as we believe that cognitive, social-emotional and pre-academic development are crucial in the early years, we know that the teaching of Jewish values, traditions and ritual are equally vital. Through the natural order of the calendar, Jewish ritual permeates the classroom flowing from month to month. We take up this divine call to pass along to our children the love and joy of our faith.
The children celebrate Shabbat each week and our Jewish holidays provide a rhythm to the school year with each holiday celebrated with music, stories and projects. Jewish values are at the core of our program. In addition to celebrating the holidays, the children participate in tikkun olam, doing their part to repair our world through tzedakah, environmental awareness and other activities to help those in need.
Our Early Childhood Center at Temple Beth El offers various and flexible scheduling to allow for each family’s needs. We imagine the child care of our dreams, not just child care that’s good enough.
