Temple Long Range
Planning Reports from Beth Jacob Congregation (Mendota Heights, MN),
B'nai Zion (Chattanooga, TN), Beth El (Bethesda, MD), Ohav Shalom (Albany,
NY) and others were used as benchmarks for temple planning.
Temple Beth El Strategic Planning forums,
held in late 1994, covering religion, education, social and services,
and buildings were a rich source of information and opinions from congregants.
Mission statements and planning inputs
from the Temple arms and major committees were submitted to the Strategic
Planning Committee in late 1994. These served to define the role of
each as then seen by their leadership.
Several individual interviews were conducted
with Temple members, clergy and professional staff in 1995 and 1996.
Temple Beth El by-laws and staff contracts
were consulted throughout the planning process.
Yankelovich Partners, Inc. conducted a
major survey of Temple Beth El members in late 1995. The statistical
results of that survey, "Looking at the Future, A Survey Among
Temple Beth El Membership" was a significant source of both demographic
and attitude information used by the committee.
Data from CACI Marketing, Inc., the U.S.
Census Bureau, and the Stamford Planning Board were all used in determining
the community demographics. Most data was based on the 1990 census.
The Council of Jewish Federations "Jewish
Environmental Scan: Toward the Year 2000", published in 1992 and
the 1995-1996 study by the Jewish Theological Seminary "Conservative
Synagogues and Their Members" were used for Jewish population demographics.
