| GUIDING PRINCIPLES |
In fulfilling
its mission and objectives, the Temple leadership will subscribe
to these guiding principles:
Temple Beth El will position its interpretation
of Jewish ritual and law in a way that will keep us in the mainstream
of Conservative Judaism, as it is described by the body of work of the
Rabbinical Assembly, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, The Jewish
Theological Seminary, and others. It may, at the discretion of the
congregation, step outside of the stated position of one or more of
the defining bodies of Conservative Judaism on specific issues.
The main business of Temple Beth El
is to provide spiritual fulfillment, enlightenment, motivation and comfort
to its members.
All members will be encouraged to participate
in as many of the various religious, educational, social and charitable
activities and programs of the Temple as possible. The breadth of programs
and activities undertaken by the Temple should be such that all members
can discover one or more Temple interests that attract them to participate.
Temple Beth El will be an egalitarian
institution.
Children are the future of Temple Beth
El and of the Jewish people and must be nurtured in their Jewish spirituality
and knowledge, and in their feeling of being part of a large Temple
Beth El and Jewish family and community.
The basic unit of the Temple family
is the member household, whether composed of several individuals or
of one. Religious, educational and social programming must deal with
member households holistically wherever possible.
The non-Jewish partners of intermarried
couples and non-Jewish parents of children in our religious school are
an important part of the Temple family. They must be welcome in all
possible aspects of Temple life.
Temple Beth El will provide the essence
of its services to all, regardless of individual financial ability.
Tzedakah @ the spirit and act
of individual giving @ is a necessity for Jewish and Temple survival,
and for personal growth and fulfillment, and Temple Beth El actively
encourages it.
Temple Beth El is committed to providing
very high quality services to its membership at the most reasonable
cost, by using modern management techniques and technology.
Temple Beth El leadership is representative of the members of the Congregation, and listens and acts according to their aggregated needs.
