Monday August 8

Arrival at Ben Gurion airport at 12:45pm. See where David ben Gurion declared the establishment of the State of Israel at Independence Hall followed by check-in and time to swim in the Mediterranean before a welcome dinner in Old Jaffa.  Tel Aviv

Tuesday August 9

Visit the Palmach Museum dedicated to this striking force of the Haganah.

Visit the secret underground bullet factory at the  Ayalon Institute.

Dig up history with your hands at an archaeological dig at Bet Guvrin

Continue to Jerusalem.  Say Shehechiyanu from atop Mount_Scopus

overlooking the Old City.  Kotel visit followed by check-in and free evening.

Wednesday August 10

Begin the day with a spectacular lookout over Jerusalem from the Haas Promenade.  Adult Program:  Text-study on the Binding of Isaac.  Kids Program:  Jerusalem Panorama Activity.

Visit the Herodian Mansions where Jerusalem's elite lived 2000 years ago.

Lunch stop in the Jewish Quarter.

See the moving audio/visual presentation at the Burnt House about Sinat Hinam “baseless hatred”. 

Descend to the City of David.  Grab a flashlight and walk through Hezekiah’s Water Tunnel built 2700 years ago to protect Jerusalem’s water supply from invading armies.

Thursday August 11

Depart for the north.

Visit the Talmudic city of  Zippori, where Rabbi Yehuda Hanassi compiled the Mishnah and site of some of the most beautiful mosaics in the Middle East. Parallel programs for adults and kids.

Program with Partnership 2000 community of Afula.

Ascend the Golan Heights for strategic outlook.

Enjoy a fish dinner on the shores of the Kinneret at Ein Gev.

Evening:  Boat ride on the Kinneret and free time in Tiberias.

Friday August 12

Visit soldiers on the IDF base along the Lebanese border (bring care packages).

Shopping opportunity at the Naot Mordechai Sandal Factory.

Enjoy a family kayaking adventure on the Jordan River with lunch.

Return to Zefat (Safed); enjoy the hotel pool and rest.  Men can take a dip in the Ari z”l mikveh.  Kabbalat Shabbat as a group overlooking the Meron Mountain range, inspiration for the writing of  Lecha Dodi, or at the Carlebach minyan.  Enjoy a gourmet Shabbat dinner in a local home in the artist colony.

Tisha B'Av

Visit the beautiful sea grottoes of Rosh Hanikrah. 

Visit the Yad L’ Yeled Children’s Holocaust Museum at Kibbutz  Lochamei Ha-getaot (Ghetto Fighters’ Kibbutz).

Explore the Crusader Halls in  Acco (Acre).  Visit the Underground Prisoners Museum. Outlook over the port of Haifa and the magnificent Bahai Gardens.

Monday August 15

Visit the  Atlit Detention Camp where Jewish refugees were put behind barbed wire by the British.

Learn about the  NILI spy ring at Bet Ahoronson Zichron Ya'akov.  Lunch break in this charming pioneering town before setting off for the Negev.

Check-in and pool time before dinner at hotel.

Evening:  Star gazing and meditation exercise.

Tuesday August 16

Rappelling down the crater wall at Maktesh Ramon.  (Non-rappellers will visit the Alpaca Ranch and Visitor's Center or enjoy the hotel pool).

All will rendezvous for an exciting jeep ride in the crater.

Lunch stop before traveling to the Dead Sea region.  Check-in and time to enjoy the spa or float in the Dead Sea.  Dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday August 17

8:00 Ascend Masada by cable car.  Explore why the Jewish rebels chose to live here after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.  (Parallel program for adults and kids).  Descend by cable car.

Hike to the Nahal David waterfall in the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve.

Return to Jerusalem for free evening.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony at  Robinson's Arch.  Explore the Southern Wall excavations. Celebratory light Kiddush.

Speaker: Dr. Michael Oren, author of Six Days of War

Crawl through the Jordanian trenches at Ammunition Hill, site of a fierce battle for the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967.

Visit the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery and Knesset Menorah.

Explore different Jewish neighborhoods as the city prepares for Shabbat.

Kabbalat Shabbat at Shira Hadasha, a revolutionary innovative minyan in the German Colony.  Festive Shabbat dinner at the hotel.
