2018 Board of Trustees Nominees

Nominated for a First Term Ending in 2021

Susan Greenwald

Hi. My name is Susan Greenwald. My husband, Art, and I have been members of Temple Beth El for over 30 years. We have four children (Seth, Jackie, Ali and David) and three grandchildren (Grace, Wes and Quinn).

Over the years, I’ve been involved in temple life as co-chair of Beth El Cares and, more recently, as a member of Reyut, a volunteer at New Covenant House and co-chair of the Women’s Seder. I deliver shiva meals as part of Project Ezra, and I’ve helped plan events for the Campaign for Temple Beth El. It’s an honor to be part of the team that is leading the way in securing TBE’s financial future and much needed renovations of our physical space.

TBE’s clergy, staff and members have always been there for my family; and I’m happy to give back by volunteering and being an active member of our synagogue. I care about mitzvot and finding opportunities for people to connect with TBE in ways that are meaningful to them. I currently fill a vacancy on the Board that expires in June and would like to continue serving as an active member of the Board.

Emily Klein

Originally from White Plains, NY, I moved to Stamford with my husband Robert in April 2014. Robert and I are the proud parents of our 3½ year old daughter Abigail, who attends pre-school at Gan Yeladim. I’m a developmental therapist in the Connecticut Birth to Three System and own a private child sleep coaching practice called Peaceful Sleep Consulting.

We’ve been members of Temple Beth El for the past four years, are frequent participants in Shababimbam on Saturday mornings, and love to attend the holiday events that TBE offers. I’m always looking for ways to get more involved in the synagogue, and I am especially interested in growing the young families program.

Chris Maroc

My late husband, Richard Heimler, and I chose TBE over several other shuls for two reasons: Rabbi Hammerman, and the two services we attended prior to becoming congregants. My personal interest in Judaism stems from my grandparents, Rex and Pola Stout. Pola Weinbach Hoffmann Stout was a Polish Jew who would not engage in her Jewish heritage because her parents were killed in Auschwitz — a pain that stayed with her throughout her life. Rex, who then was a popular author, Chairman of the Writers War Board under FDR, and politically connected, did all he could, but was unable to facilitate her parents’ escape to the USA. My husband and TBE provided the opportunity for me to understand and connect with my Jewish heritage as I was not able to previously.

Despite my work as an International Sterling Society agent at Coldwell Banker, I have found the time to become an active congregant. I am a TBE Ambassador, welcoming new members. I participate in efforts to engage our LBGT neighbors, connecting TBE with the Triangle Community Center in Norwalk. I’m on the marketing team for the Campaign for Temple Beth El. I serve on the committee which is working on the celebration of Rabbi Hammerman’s 30 years of service to the congregation. I also participate in various TBE events, such as Temple Rock; regularly attend Friday night services; and presently sit on the Board of Trustees, completing the term left by my late husband.

Moving forward, I hope to contribute in a number of ways to the congregation. These include financing an annual theatrical event to celebrate Richard’s life and love for TBE; further engaging the LGBT community; helping to increase community awareness of what TBE offers; and, taking a leadership role in one of the many committees at TBE.

Irma Ross

Hi. I’m Irma Ross and I am honored and delighted to be nominated for a position on the synagogue’s Board of Trustees.

I live in Norwalk and am a psychotherapist with a private practice. Prior to 2015, I had been “shul shopping” for about 10 years, and then was lucky enough to find TBE. I was welcomed with open arms and encouraged to come to services and get involved in any way I wanted.

I am a regular at Friday night services, which are uplifting and beautiful. I have worked with a wonderful group of women developing and producing three years of spiritual, fun and warm Women’s Seders — all with the guidance and vision of Cantor Fishman. I have also collaboratively developed our new Shabbat-in-the-Round monthly Saturday morning services with the wisdom of both the Cantor and Rabbi Hammerman.

Being an active member of the TBE community is a true gift and blessing in my life.
