Dan Avnir
Born and raised on Long Island, I moved to Stamford in 2011 from New York City. I maintain a deep connection to Israel vis-a-vis extended family (who reside in Tel Aviv) as well as through my father, who was born in Jerusalem and served in the ’67 and ’73 wars. I am a Managing Director at Bryant Park Capital, a boutique investment bank, and a proud husband to Jessica and father to daughters Millie and Addison, and son Benjamin. |
Kahla Cooper
I currently work in marketing at Axiom Investors, a private asset management company in Greenwich, CT. Originally from Texas, my husband Gordon and I moved to Stamford over 10 years ago. We have two children, Gavin (8 years old) and Sloane (6 years old). In my free time, I enjoy cooking, cleaning and spending time with family and friends. |
Michael (Mike) Handel
I joined Temple Beth El in 1975, shortly after moving to Stamford as a young child. I learned Hebrew at TBE, had my Bar Mitzvah here, and learned what it meant to be a Jew here. In short, I found my spiritual home here. After spending the last decade in software sales, I recently decided to leave corporate America in pursuit of more entrepreneurial endeavors, purchasing a franchise painting business. I enjoy live music, being outdoors, and spending time with my wife and two daughters in quiet Wilton. I hope to continue my service on the TBE Board and foster community and belonging in our community. |
Julie Rosenberg
I’ve been a member of Temple Beth El since 2011. During that time, I’ve been a member of the Young Families Committee, Educational Director Search Committee, the Ambassador Program, and the Teen Programming Committee. I am a graduate of the Behrend Leadership Institute, a past board member of Friendship Circle, a former member of the Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy Parent Association, a long-time member of the JCC, and a volunteer around town. Professionally, I am a speech-language pathologist at the Eagle Hill School in Greenwich where I work with students with language-based learning disabilities. I live in Stamford with my husband, Dr. Remi Rosenberg, and our two children, Jonah and Sylvie, who are both students at Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy. My family and I feel fortunate to have found many of our best friends right here at TBE. |
Barbara Rothstein
I was born and raised in Brooklyn and attended Binghamton University where I earned a B.S. degree in biology. After graduation, I worked in the physiology laboratory at Memorial Sloan Kettering while I completed my M.S. in Clinical Chemistry from Long Island University. My husband Steve and I moved to Merrick (Long Island) in 1985 where we raised our children, Allison and Evan. We joined Temple Israel of South Merrick where we remained members until we relocated to Stamford in January 2018. We were both active in Temple Israel as board members. I eventually became President and served a four-year term. I left Memorial Sloan Kettering when our daughter was born. After five years as a stay-at-home mom, I started a consulting practice that set up and monitored quality assurance plans for medical laboratories. I sold my practice in January 2017 though I still do a little work from time to time. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, playing the piano and Pilates. Mostly, I enjoy our four granddaughters: Alexa, Emma, Natalie and Jacqueline. |
