TBE Strategic Priorities
Strategic Priorities for the Future of Temple Beth El:
A Vision for Increased Engagement and Impact
Executive Summary
During the past year, I have actively engaged with congregants, lay leaders, and staff to identify aspirations and opportunities, and developed a strategic vision aimed at enhancing community impact and engagement. This vision is founded on three central priorities, crafted to align with TBE’s mission:
- Relational Judaism: Cultivating a Connected Community
This priority emphasizes fostering a community where every member feels valued and connected. Key strategies include expanding community-building events and small-group gatherings, and creating welcoming spaces that reflect the diversity of TBE. The goal is to create a covenantal, relationship-centered community rooted in mutual support. - Empowered Judaism: Partnering to Co-Create Jewish Life
This vision encourages active congregant participation in shaping TBE’s spiritual life. Congregants are invited to assume leadership roles in worship, learning, and other Jewish practices, cultivating a community that feels a shared responsibility for creating meaningful Jewish experiences. The focus here is on empowering members to own their Jewish journeys, supported by accessible, tradition-rooted programming. - Prophetic Judaism: Pursuing Inclusion and Justice, Inside and Out
Recognizing TBE’s longstanding commitment to social justice, this priority seeks to address systemic issues and promote inclusion within the congregation and beyond. With the aim of making TBE a model of equity, proposed initiatives include both hands-on volunteerism and advocacy work addressing root causes of injustice.
Singular Focus for 2025-26: Centering Shabbat – This focus emphasizes making Shabbat the heart of TBE, enhancing its role as a space for community, reflection, and social justice. Strategies include creating immersive Shabbat experiences through worship, learning, and communal meals that deepen connections and foster a culture of lay leadership.
Together, these priorities represent a transformative vision for TBE, drawing upon the strengths of our heritage to meet the challenges and opportunities of our time. Moving forward will require structural alignment, resource allocation, and shared commitment to ensure TBE flourishes as a dynamic and inclusive community.
