“It is an honor to chair the Campaign for Temple Beth El at this critical juncture in our synagogue’s history. Having served as president of the Temple nearly a decade ago, I know full well the impact TBE has had on so many lives, both in our congregation and in the community at large. TBE is a place where we can pray and reflect, celebrate and be comforted, learn and find meaning, serve and be inspired. It is a place where we educate our children to become the next generation of American Jews. This campaign will ensure TBE’s impact will continue to be made for years to come. In 1920, fifty families joined to form Temple Beth El (TBE) on Prospect Street in downtown Stamford. Our founders knew that to secure TBE’s future, they had to build a synagogue that reflected both the new ideas of Conservative Judaism as well as their Jewish heritage. (For more, click here.)
Today, Temple Beth El is a congregation of more than 500 families, and our beautiful building on Roxbury Road stands as a testament to our founders’ vision. Although we continue to have strong ties to our past, we are a different community than we were almost 100 years ago.
We continue to thrive because of the unique qualities we possess:
- Our members are engaged and energized at services, educational and social programs, and Tikkun Olam initiatives.
- Our Rabbi uplifts our spirits and challenges our minds in a myriad of ways.
- Our Cantor’s music nourishes our souls.
- Our reputation for warmth and inclusiveness keeps our congregation growing.
Although our finances today are stable, our current financial approach won’t work for the long term. With dues and donations that can fluctuate, growing building expenses and unforeseen economic downturns, our financial stability is vulnerable.
Now is the time to build upon our strengths and secure our future with a well-funded endowment — providing Temple Beth El with the financial security we need to remain a visionary and thriving congregation for generations to come.
