The Tzedek Committee has created this two-part series and has invited Debbie Smith Rayford to speak and facilitate the sessions. Debbie is the founder of DSR Consulting LLC, a diversity and inclusion consulting firm in Washington, D.C.
Part 1: Breaking Down Bias (Thursday, December 3, 2020, 5:30-7:00 p.m.)
Everyone has Unconscious Bias. It doesn’t make us bad, it makes us human. Gone unchecked and not acknowledged however, unconscious bias can cause unintended damage and send the wrong message. This session will help you explore unconscious bias and how to begin to acknowledge and break down some of the blind spots you may have.
Part 2: Real Talk About Bias (Monday, December 21, 2020, 6:00-7:30 p.m.)
Panelists from Temple Beth El and Union Baptist Church will discuss their experiences with unconscious bias and how they’ve worked with their blind spots. We will all have the opportunity to discuss the similarities and differences between Jewish and Black experiences of unconscious bias and discuss how to build/re-build bridges between our two communities.
